Happy New Year and Welcome to 2018!  The electrical training ALLIANCE continues to add new courses to the LMS.  The month of January will be busy and a list of the course additions are coming soon.  That said, some courses included new functionality requirements.  One of those courses is the new, Preparing for Leadership: Personal Qualities, Level I

LMS Tools added

  • Course Enrollment Enhancements
  • Instructor Reports

Course Enrollment Enhancements

Along with the Standard version of the

Prerequisite Badge

course, comes an online Train-The-Trainer (TTT) version.

The Standard version of the course includes a prerequisite to session creation. This is noted by the new Prerequisite Badge.  Within Course Enrollment, you may hover over the badge to display a tool-tip noting the course includes one or more prerequisites.

The prerequisite for the Standard Version is the completion of the TTT version by the instructor who will facilitate the training of the students.  Once the instructor has completed the TTT course, only then can a session of the Standard version with students be created.

Instructor Reports

After having reviewed the above video, and learned how the enrollment process has been updated to facilitate courses with prerequisites to enrollment functionality, it would seem appropriate to wonder —–

Can I track instructor progress within a TTT course?

The answer, yes.  A new report was created and it mirrors the method for tracking individual students work in the LMS.  The process for tracking instructor progress for Training Directors (TDs) and Assistant Training Directors (ATDs) starts by completing the following 3 steps first:

  • Login to the Enrollment Applicationlmsadmin.njatc.org
  • Access the LMS via the LOGIN TO LMS button
  • Navigate to the My Reports page

In case you were unaware, the 3 steps above grant the user access to the LMS with a specific role for TDs and ATDs.   Once there, you will note a new 4th ribbon on the My Reports page.  This ribbon displays two reports for tracking instructor progress.

  • The first report is the LMS Instructor Course report.  This report used to be accessed from within the Time/Login Reports ribbon — it was also only accessible to TDs and ATDs.  This report identifies the modules completed by instructors in preparation for teaching in our Blended Learning format.
  • The new report built is called TTT Grades. It mirrors the Student Grades report found within the Student Overview Reports ribbon.  These display the course average and 1st attempt scores for lesson quizzes.

Watch the video below for an explanation of this new ribbon and report.  Double click the video to expand to full screen.  Be sure to pause and replay sections of the video as needed.

Last thing…

I viewed the new course.  The ability to review student response to questions will be as important as ever.  The following info is not new, but the video explanation is.

Navigating to the Session Question Detail and Lesson Question Detail reports.

These reports allow the Instructor to review how a session (or group) of students performed on a single question in one report, or a single student’s performance on all questions of an entire lesson in one report.

  • The Session Question Detail report may be accessed by selecting on the session average on a specific question within the Session Lesson Report.  This comes in especially useful when reviewing essay style questions and also answers the question: “What created this group’s average on this question?”
  • The Lesson Question Detail report may be accessed by selecting on the lesson average of a particular student from within the Session Lesson Report.  This report answers, among other things, “What created this student’s average on this lesson?”

Watch the video below for an explanation of these reports.  Double click the video to expand to full screen.  Be sure to pause and replay sections of the video as needed.

Thanks for reading and watching.  Happy New Year!
