All changes made on the LMS by the electrical training ALLIANCE aim to support easier navigation of the system by the user. Based on your feedback, we have made some usability enhancements to streamline the assessment’s Lost Focus feature so your students can return to testing quickly and easily. The feature enhancements include::

  • Changes to lost focus during Test Administration; and
  • Lost focus monitoring during Test Review

Read on to see how these enhancements are used and will benefit your students.

Test Administration

First, we removed the student’s requirement to enter a reason why focus was lost during the test. Instructors and students are normally in the same room or on a Zoom session during a test, so we eliminated it from the process.

Now, when a student loses focus, they will still get paused, but there is no longer a requirement to enter the reason and send it to the instructor, as you can see below:

Several enhancements on the instructor side have also been made. You will notice that:

  • We added a convenient list of currently out-of-focus students, which replaces the list of pop-up notifications that appear each time a student loses focus.
  • We added a “Resume All Lost Focus” button so you can resume everyone who has lost focus at once, in addition to being able to resume them individually.
  • Sorting student tiles has been updated and organized as follows (each group sorted alphabetically):
    1. First – Out-of-focus students
    2. Second – In-focus students
    3. Last – Disconnected or absent students
  • We also added an additional red outline on students waiting to be resumed:
    1. If a student is back in-focus and ready to go, their tile will be green with a red outline.
    2. If a student is still out-of-focus, their tile will be totally red.

Assessment Review

Lost focus functionality has been added to the assessment review side. We felt it was just as important to monitor lost focus during an assessment review during test administration, but we kept it simple here.

When a student loses focus during an assessment review, their review will be paused, and they will see the same lost focus screen as before.

Again, they are not required to enter a reason why because we are assuming they are in touch with the instructor either in person or via Zoom or some other teleconferencing method.

On the Instructor side, the following enhancements have been made:

  • The student list has moved from the bottom left of the page to a more prominent position in the center of the screen so you can better monitor what is going on.
  • “Pause/Resume” review buttons were added for each student.
  • The “End Student” review button was added if you need to completely remove a student from the review.
  • “Begin/End Assessment” review buttons were added:
    1. In the past, the review would just start automatically. Adding the Start button allows the Instructor to make sure everyone is logged in and on focus before starting the review.
  • “Resume Lost Focus” button was added:
    1. This will resume ALL users with lost focus, or you can resume them individually with the “Pause/Resume” review buttons.

We hope that you find these new features useful and easier to work with.
