Demystifying Computer-Mediated Learning and the ProTech Skills Institute

Unraveling the possible mystery of computer-mediated learning and the function of the ProTech Skills Institute has been something the electrical training ALLIANCE (etA) has been working on for close to a year now. The etA has been holding training that benefits every role held at a JATC/AJATC. Demystifying Computer-Mediated Learning and the ProTech Skills Institute training addresses specifics for committee members, administrators, and instructors. It covers the new features/capabilities of the LMS and TMS and how these features support apprenticeship training.

Demystifying training is essential for everyone at your JATC. If you have questioned how computer-mediated learning (CML), the new training management system (TMS), and the learning management system (LMS) can assist with apprenticeship training, this training is for you! Participants will receive pertinent information to understand the updates and how to get the most out of them.

Coming to A JATC Near You… July 1, 2023!

ProTech Skills Training Management System

If you have not already migrated to the ProTech Skills Training Management System (PTSI TMS), it’s coming to your JATC on July 1, 2023! What will the new PTSI TMS do for your JATC? If you take the Demystifying training class, you will be prepared and knowledgeable for the new TMS when it comes your way and aware of all it has to offer. In addition to the new features, the new TMS also changes how courses are purchased and users gain access to the LMS. The Demystifying training covers all of this and more.

New Features and Highlights
  • Calendar: This feature is a valuable tool for all users of the Online Learning System (OLS) for creating and managing important training dates. Important dates include content due dates, training attendance dates, or when a qualification may expire.
  • Course Assignments: The assignments module allows instructors to assign activities, students to review/submit the activity, and instructors to provide feedback and grades for the activities.
  • Discussion Forums: This forum is intended to promote conversation/dialogue between users within a course session, which encourages active engagement between users.

  • Messaging: offers the ability for SMS (Short Message Service) within the OLS. Students can test with one or more students that they are enrolled in a session with, and Instructors can text one or more people with whom they are registered in a session. This platform will not allow pictures or links to be shared, just text. Message history can be provided upon request for audit purposes should the need arise.
  • Custom Courses: the custom courses feature is one of the key features added to the system. Custom courses support the training location’s ability to create and manage courses specific to their needs. Examples of custom courses training locations have made are local-, state-, or jurisdiction-specific courses; local program augmentation of topics; and remediation courses for students wanting/needing extra support.
  • Mobile App and Notifications: This integration allows training locations to direct push notifications to users within their organizations, displaying via the mobile app and in the LMS. It also allows training locations to create content for the mobile app that is only viewable by the user associated with their training location. Training locations can also define who can view that content within their location via filter groups.
